Is it safe to fly during pregnancy?

Yes - in your first and second trimesters. If you have had problems with spotting, diabetes, high blood pressure, best to check with your doctor.

Airlines usually don’t let you fly after the 28th week of your pregnancy. If you are around this date best to gets a doctor’s letter confirming you are fit to fly.

Flying mid pregnancy (14 to 28 weeks) is usually the most suitable time to fly. The risk of miscarriage and premature labor is low at this time in your pregnancy.

Check with the airline you are using to find out their policy on pregnant women flying. Many airline polices do differ between companies.

Tips for flying when pregnant.

  • Find the most comfortable seat. Try to get an aisle seat at the front of the plane. This should let you move about easier.
  • Go for a walk. Keeps that circulation going. Even if its just to freshen up in the toilet.
  • Drink plenty of fluids. Low humidity in the cabin can cause dehydration.
