33 weeks pregnant

Have you finished all the preparations necessary for the childbirth? If not, this is a great time to list down all the things you need to do before your baby’s delivery.

What’s Going on with the Baby

Fat is accumulating

Your baby’s brain is continually developing in preparation for its many responsibilities upon birth. Fat is still accumulating under your baby’s skin, so that he or she will be pretty much wrinkle-free when you see him. Your baby will now be weighing in at 1.8 kilograms.

What’s Going on with Mommy

Amniotic fluid

You would have about 2 pints of amniotic fluid, which would be the highest level throughout your pregnancy. Although every woman has different amounts of amniotic fluid, some are polyhydramnios (having too much) or oligohydramnios (having too little). The measurement is usually taken using ultrasound to get the Amniotic Fluid Index (AFI). Not having the right amount of amniotic fluid could cause fetal distress and pregnancy complications, so make sure you check this with your doctor.

Elbow or knees protruding?

By now you should be able to see your baby’s elbow or knees protruding through your belly when he or she moves. If this bothers you, try talking to your baby gently and playing soft, soothing music. By now, your baby has already learned to recognize your voice.

Now for Daddy

Prepare your hospital bag

Prepare the hospital bag that you will bring once your partner goes into labor.

Some of the things to include in the bag:

  • A change of clothes for both of you
  • Her favorite robe
  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Your favorite music (iPod or any music player)
  • Camera or camcorder (including the batteries, charger, and other necessary accessories)
  • Socks
  • A baby book (for the baby footprint if you want to do this)
  • Reading materials (while waiting for the baby to be born)
  • Anything else you think you would like to have around on this special moment.
