30 weeks pregnant

10 more weeks to go?

Just 10 more weeks to go (at the maximum!) and you’ll finally be able to judge for yourself whether your baby takes after the father or the mother. Does he have dad’s curly hair? Or mom’s long eyelashes? You’ll find out soon enough.

What’s Going on with the Baby

Sleep-wake cycle

The baby now weighs around 1.36 kilograms and is continually growing in weight and length. He or she is now highly aware of the surroundings (that is, the inside of the uterus) and has a sleep-wake cycle which can be observed by the mother. The baby’s eyelids open and close repeatedly. Lanugo is finally disappearing and the nails are growing.

Elbows and knees

In the earlier weeks of pregnancy, your baby can move around a lot. Towards the third trimester, the movements become limited since there is less space to explore. You’ll probably feel the elbows and knees poking every once in a while.

What’s Going on with Mommy

Sleeping problems

If you’re having trouble getting your much needed forty winks, try to sleep on your left side. The aorta and vena cava are slightly to your right, so if you lie down on your left side, the blood flow to your extremities and organs will be unobstructed. This should help you get your much needed rest.

Labor

If you haven’t already done so, read up on what to expect during labor so that you won’t be caught unaware when your labor pains begin.

Now for Daddy

As much as possible, do not go on out-of-town or overseas trips, so that you’ll always be around in case your partner begins to feel the contractions coming. If this is not possible, always make sure there’s a family member or close friend who is close by to assist your partner when the time comes. Inform them of your absence so that they’ll be on the alert.
