Baby is now aware of light

At last, the uterus allows some light to shine in, so that your baby is now aware of light and dark. But it’s not just the baby who’s been in the dark for the past twenty-five weeks. Sometimes, most of the family is in the dark as well on how to deal with the pregnancy. Open discussion is the key to solve any potential problems, especially for older siblings who may feel threatened with all the attention the baby is getting.

What’s Going on with the Baby

Lungs are developing

Your baby now weighs around 795 grams and is about 32.5 centimeters long, which is longer than a foot-long ruler. His or her veins are still clearly visible through the transparent skin, although the skin is slowly becoming more opaque as the due date approaches. The lungs are actively developing during this time too, and there is increased brain activity. A highlight for this week is that your baby can finally see the home it’s been living in for the past twenty six weeks. This is because the eyelids have finally separated (remember that it was fused closed during the previous weeks). He or she is also now able to move the head back and forth, probably more out of reflex than a genuine desire to investigate the inside of the womb.

What’s Going on with Mommy

Still suffering constipation?

Your uterus is now 2 ½ inches above your belly button. If you’re still battling constipation even though you’ve already increased your liquid and fiber intake, you may want to ask your doctor for a suppository. However, it’s still best to deal with this naturally unless you can’t take it anymore.

Now for Daddy

Sleeping separately

You’ll probably notice that your partner keeps tossing and turning in bed, and getting up frequently in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom or to get midnight snacks. If as a result, you’re having problems sleeping as well, you may want to consider sleeping separately for the meantime. However, it’s still best to stick close to your partner especially during her pregnancy.
