25 Weeks Pregnant

By this time next year, your baby will be about nine months old already, and crying all the time and keeping you up all night. So enjoy the peace and quiet of the 15 (or less) remaining weeks of pregnancy.

What’s Going on with the Baby

Baby’s spine beginning to form

The structure of your baby’s spine is beginning to form – that means there are 33 rings, 150 joints and about 1000 ligaments developing simultaneously. Ossification continues during this week, so that your baby will be born with strong and healthy bones. The nostrils are also beginning to open, and blood vessels of the lungs are starting to develop. Your child now weighs about 710 grams, and will now start rotating out of the breech position into a better position for childbirth. Hopefully, your baby’s head will be pointed toward the birth canal towards the end of the week. Of course, a certain percentage of children remain in the breech position, necessitating a caesarian operation to get him or her out.

What’s Going on with Mommy

Shooting pains in your legs or lower back?

Your uterus is now the size of a soccer ball. Can you believe it? However, this places a lot of pressure on your pelvis and back, and may cause shooting pains in your legs or lower back. Practicing good posture is important, since slouching will actually exacerbate the pain. You may also try to apply a warm compress in the painful area to relieve some of the pain. You may also notice that your body hair is getting thicker and more plentiful. Not to worry, as this is a by-product of the hormonal changes you’ve been experiencing for the past twenty-five weeks.

Now for Daddy

Designing your nursery

This is the perfect time to start designing your nursery or baby room or shop for baby clothes, since she still has enough energy to do these things. It’s also the right time to plan your maternity and paternity leave schedules in case you’re both working.
