Premature Birth Statistics
Babies, who have mothers that use alcohol while pregnant, are likely to suffer a spectrum of illnesses that are classified under the FAS or the fetal alcohol syndrome. These babies are also born premature.
Based on statistics:
- about 71% of premature babies are born 4-6 weeks before the due date,
- 13% were born 7-8 weeks before due date,
- 10 % were born 9-12 weeks before due date,
- and 6% were born for more than three months (12 weeks and more) before due date.
Will these babies, after premature birth, survive? The chances of surviving are higher for babies who have stayed longer inside the womb.
