Baby Mumps

Baby mumps is a very infections and is caused by a virus. This virus targets the baby’s glands and nervous tissues.

Commonly it is found between the ages of 5 and 9; however anybody can contract the mumps. A vaccine has been available since 1967, and since then infection rates have went down considerably. It is very rare to experience mumps more than once.

Symptoms of Mumps

  • Pain and swelling in the either or both of the glands around the face, neck or jaw.
  • Fever and headache.
  • Puffiness of the face.

Treatment's for Mumps

  • Child friendly pain relief should be taken and apply a heat pack or similar to reduce the swelling.
  • As your child’s throat may be swollen it may be difficult to swallow hence the need to feed your child food that is easy to swallow.
  • Give your child plenty of liquids.
  • If your child is a boy and develops a red testicle then consult your doctor immediately.

Incubation Period

12 to 21 days

Infectious period

Two days before the swelling appears.
