Baby Diarrhea or diarrhoea

Babies pass plenty of liquid stools - most parents will testify to this! So how do you know if your baby has Diarrhea? If your baby starts to have very frequent watery stools then this is probably Diarrhea. Basically if your baby’s normal pattern is suddenly changed then it is probable that your baby does have diarrhea.

If it is caused by a viral infection – one of the following is likely to be responsible

  • Otovirus,
  • Adenovirus
  • Calicivirus,
  • Astrovirus
  • Influenza

Bacterial infection

Diarrhea can also be cause by a Bacterial infection. Here is a list of the most likely causes:

  • Almonella
  • shigella
  • staphylococcus
  • campylobacter
  • E. coli

If it is a Bacterial infection then it could be it could be severe for your baby. Bacterial infections like e coli can be very serious so if your baby has severe Diarrhea
Consult your doctor as soon as possible.

What can you do when your baby has Diarrhea?

  • Firstly and most important make sure your baby receives plenty of fluids.
  • Wash your hands after each change of your baby’s nappy.
  • Sterilize all bottles and teats.
  • Don’t give your baby any soft fruits.

Antibiotics

Some Antibiotics can cause Diarrhea.
