What age group does Bronchitis commonly effect?

A common infection mainly suffered by babies up to the age of two. Bronchitis is a viral respiratory infection. Bronchitis attacks the airways that lead to the lungs. These begin to fill with mucus which in turn makes breathing for the baby more difficult.

Can your child get admitted to hospital with Bronchitis?

Some babies have been known to be admitted to hospital with the infection however this is usually just to help with feeding or to administer oxygen.

Is Bronchitis more common in boys?

It is more common in boys than girls, babies that have not been breastfed and is easily spread when babies live in crowded conditions.

Bronchitis generally lasts around 10 days with the middle part of the infection being the most severe.

Signs and symptoms of Bronchitis

  • Cold accompanied by the child being wheezy.
  • Runny Nose
  • Lose of appetite (due to the babies nose being blocked)
  • Raised heartbeat
  • Nasal flaring

Things you can do to relive Bronchitis

  • Give you baby plenty of water to drink
  • Administer nose drops to your child.
  • Keep away from smoky environments.
  • Keep your child upright and use a humidifier to keep the air moist.
